The new Google logo is bad for your mental health

The new Google logo is childish, ugly, and insulting.

It’s childish because it looks like something your kindergarten teacher drew for the class. It looks like an exercise from your first-grade coloring book. It certainly doesn’t go beyond early elementary school in style and format.

It’s ugly because . . . Well, beauty or ugliness is a matter of personal taste, but as a former freelance book reviewer specializing in art books, I’ll throw in my two cents’ worth—it’s glaringly ugly. That bloated, childlike capital “G” at the beginning and the cheery, ultra-upbeat “e” at the end—yech! Just do a Google search for “the new Google logo is childish and ugly,” you’ll find that many people feel the same way, and even some technical analyses of the logo’s ugliness from an aesthetics standpoint.

The juvenile new logo is also insulting. Through this graphic device which registers in your brain multiple times per day, Google wants you to know: “You the Sheeple—consumers of infotainment, disinfotainment, and misinfotainment—are welcome to browse the web to your heart’s content using our colorful search engine, because what you’re doing is ALL HARMLESS FUN.”

Google claims that it needed to change its logo because it created the Alphabet holding company and because the logo needed to be more legible on mobile devices. But don’t kid yourself, the aim of the new logo is to deliberately dumb us down. All of us, not just the American sheeple, but the whole world. Hundreds of millions of people use the Google search engine every day. Through this insidious kindergarten logo, we are all being given a subliminal (yet somehow blatant) message: “You are children. What you do on the Internet is inconsequential, because we, the corporate/infotainment empire, are in control. So browse away, it doesn’t matter what you read, what you learn, what you discover. It’s all harmless fun.”

What can anyone do? Switch to a different search engine? I’m addicted to Google, so I guess I’ll have to look at this ugly, ridiculous thing every day until they change it.

EARTH TO GOOGLE: Change your infantile logo back to the previous logo or quickly come up with a different one.

Someone should start a campaign to compel Google to get rid of this visual atrocity. It’s an eyesore and much more. A massive online protest campaign would do the trick.
