Moscow’s and Washington’s contradictory strategies in fighting terrorism in the Middle East

The decision by Russia (September 30) to send its jet fighters to bomb terrorists in Syria and its alliance with Iran and Iraq to share intelligence information about terrorism has surprised Washington which tactically altered its grand design for the Middle East. Logically, such a decision should be a welcome development for Washington. Instead, Washington has strongly denounced Russia and has presented its attempt as a threat to U.S. interests in the region. Obama‘s frightening Syrian policy

Just after President Obama spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about his decision to seek authority from Congress to attack Syria, the president enthusiastically and aggressively lobbied lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Likewise, he reached out to the heads of states of several countries and pressed them to support his war efforts. Experts in Washington and other major capitals attributed such drive to the blessing he had received from the Israeli leader and Israel lobby in Washington. Continue reading

Tehran, Washington’s pressing target

When President Bush visited Dubai on January 14, 2008, the government declared a curfew. The curfew was justified as a necessary security measure to foil a possible plot to kill the president, probably by Iranian sympathizers. Though there was no credible proof that the president’s life was even remotely at risk, Washington used the occasion to send a powerful message to the Iranian regime that their regional ambitions would be treated as a threat to American interests in the Middle East.
